Christchurch public transport is in the form of a comprehensive bus service. You can pay cash fares on all services, however if you plan to be in Christchurch for some time it would be wise to obtain a Metrocard. A Metrocard gives better value, since it currently costs $1.50 per trip (as opposed to $2 for a cash fare) and you get unlimited transfers for two hours. A day pass is also available at $7 for individuals or just $15 for the entire family and can be bought from the bus driver.

A unique electric shuttle bus also provides a free service around the City centre. There are 21 stops on the central city route and the brightly-coloured shuttles are easy to spot.

A number of taxi services are also available, including Blue Star Taxis, Gold Band and First Direct.

Christchurch Best Attractions runs a shuttle bus which departs regularly from the centre of Christchurch and travels to The Antarctic Centre and then on to Willowbank Wildlife Reserve then back to the city centre, then leaves for the Christchurch Gondola Base Station before returning to the city to start again.
