Christchurch Tramway The Christchurch Tramway commenced operation on 4 February 1995. History repeated itself with the return of the familiar electric trams which disappeared from the streets of Christchurch in 1954 and now return to link Christchurch's central sites and attractions.

With the addition of the 1926 Melbourne tram which operates as the Christchurch Tramway Restaurant, Christchurch now boasts five trams and two trailers, lovingly restored to their original pristine condition.

Christchurch's heritage trams are the only way to experience the heritage and charm that makes Christchurch special, with an informative and entertaining commentary.

The inner city of Christchurch is such a special place to explore with so many different things to see and do for locals and visitors alike. And the best way to experience all the must see attractions is from on board the Christchurch Tramway.

The beautifully restored trams follow a 2.5 kilometre loop around central Christchurch taking in some of the most interesting sites. These include Cathedral Square, Aquarium of Discovery, The Arts Centre, Botanic Gardens, Canterbury Museum, Punting on the Avon, Victoria Square, and New Regent Street to name just a few.
