Ferrymead Heritage Park

Ferrymead Heritage Park offers the opportunity to step back in time and experience a fascinating insight into New Zealand's history, just 15 minutes by car from the Christchurch CBD.

Regarded as one of New Zealand's premier heritage attractions, Ferrymead, which means "The Meadow by the Ferry" is named after the ferry which operated in the area during the 1850's taking Canterbury's early settlers across the Heathcote River during their travels between the port of Lyttelton and the then new settlement of Christchurch.

Ferrymead Heritage Park features an Edwardian-style township complete with picture theatre, school house and jail. There is also a fascinating collection of musuem and heritage exhibits, tram rides on weekends and holidays and steam train runs first Sunday of months Feb to Nov and every Sunday Dec-Feb.
